Launching a coin

The fields, limits and on-chain steps behind a launch, including the optional first buy.

A launch is one transaction signed by your wallet. It creates the coin's token mint and its virtual pool on Halo's shared configuration, and can include a first buy. There is no platform fee to launch.

Every ticker is accepted. Two coins can share a symbol, and the mint address identifies a coin. See FAQ for why.

What happens on chain

  1. Metadata. The app uploads your image and a metadata file to Halo's server. Both are stored by content hash and served with long cache lifetimes, so the address the wallet shows never changes after the launch.
  2. Mint. A new mint is created by the DBC program with the supply, decimals and authority rules from Halo's configuration: 1,000,000,000 tokens, 6 decimals, fixed supply and immutable metadata. No mint authority exists, so the supply cannot increase.
  3. Pool. The program creates a virtual pool that holds the whole supply and quotes it against SOL using Halo's curve. You are recorded as the pool creator, which is what entitles you to the creator share of trading fees.
  4. First buy (optional). If you included one, the same transaction buys from the new pool as its first swap, at the starting price, with the 1.56% fee applied like any other trade.
  5. Registration. After your wallet confirms, the app tells Halo's server about the new mint. The indexer also finds every launch on the shared configuration independently, so your coin is listed even if you close the tab.

About first buys

A creator's first buy is visible on chain like every other trade and is shown in the coin's trade history. It pays the same curve price as anyone else would for the same amount in the same position. Launching gives no discount.

A creator can buy a large share of their own coin in the first transaction. It costs more than on common alternatives and pays the launch tax. Traders can see all of it on the coin page.

After you launch

  • You earn the creator share of every trade on the coin, claimable from the Rewards page.
  • About 0.5% of your coin's volume automatically buys it back and burns it. See Buyback and burn.
  • If the coin reaches 120 SOL raised it graduates automatically to a DAMM v2 pool. See Graduation.
